The short version: Hold Sleep only measures how busy your apps are, everything stays on your Mac, and purchases are final.

The short version

• Hold Sleep measures activity counters (CPU, disk and network use per app) on your Mac. It never reads your files, your screen or what you type.
• The app only goes online to check your license key and, once a day, to look for app updates (that check sends only the app's version).
• No account, no analytics, no cookies beyond a theme preference on this website.
• All purchases are final. See Refunds below.

The app: what it measures

• Activity counters. Every few seconds Hold Sleep reads per-process CPU time, disk bytes and network bytes — the same totals Activity Monitor shows — and the “don't sleep” requests apps register with macOS.
• Process names and paths, so it can group helpers under their app (Chrome's helpers count as Chrome) and recognise AI agents like Claude Code.
• Processed on your Mac. These numbers are used in memory to decide whether to keep your Mac awake. Nothing is sent anywhere.
• Stored locally. Your settings, ignored apps and a short list of recently finished tasks stay in the app's preferences on your Mac.
• Never touched: file contents, documents, screen contents, keystrokes, clipboard, browsing history.

Closed-lid mode

If you turn on closed-lid mode, Hold Sleep asks for your administrator password once to add a rule to /etc/sudoers.d that allows exactly two commands: pmset -a disablesleep 1 and pmset -a disablesleep 0. You can remove the rule anytime from Settings › Battery & Lid.

Licensing and updates: the app's only network traffic

• License key. When you activate, Hold Sleep sends your key and your Mac's name to our payment provider, Dodo Payments. It re-checks the key about once a week; being offline never locks you out. Deactivating frees the key for another Mac.
• Updates. Once a day Hold Sleep downloads a small update feed from holdsleep.com. Updates are signed and verified before they install.

When you buy on this website, checkout and payment are handled by Dodo Payments. Your payment details go to them, not to us — we never see or store your card. Dodo Payments issues your license key on screen and by email.

This website

• No analytics, no tracking, no advertising cookies.
• One preference, your light/dark theme, is kept in your browser's local storage and never leaves your browser.

If you email support@holdsleep.com, we use your address to reply to that request and for nothing else.

Refunds

All sales are final. Because software and license keys can't be returned, we don't offer refunds. To help you decide before buying:
